Saturday, May 1, 2004
CHICAGO (January 5, 2004) - As Yogi Berra would
have said, it's déjà vu all over again for legendary broadcaster
Paul Harvey and Chicago-based insurer Bankers Life and Casualty
Company.
For the second time in his 70-year career, the popular radio
newsman will act as on-air spokesman for Bankers, helping the
company celebrate its 125th anniversary in 2004. During
the 1950's-80's, Harvey was the "Voice of Bankers."
"We couldn't be prouder to be associated with any person," said
Bankers President and CEO Edward M. Berube. "Paul Harvey's unique
style and his stature as a broadcaster is a perfect fit with
Bankers. We are very much looking forward to hearing that
incredible voice broadcast our messages."
Bankers Life and Casualty Company is a national insurer focusing
exclusively on insurance products designed for seniors. During
Harvey's first tenure as a spokesman for the company, Bankers
became one of the first insurers in the country to offer Medicare
supplemental insurance and one of the first to offer nursing home
(long term care) insurance.
Paul Harvey's radio career started in 1933. In June 1944, he
began broadcasting in Chicago at the ABC affiliate WENR-AM. He
began his coast-to-coast broadcast "News and Comment" on the ABC
Radio Networks in 1951.
Today, Paul Harvey broadcasts "News and Comment" and "The Rest
of the Story," six days a week around the world. Paul Harvey News
is the largest one-man network in the world, consisting of over
1200 radio stations, 400 Armed Forces Network stations that
broadcast around the world, and 300 newspapers.
Established in 1879 and headquartered at the historic
Merchandise Mart in downtown Chicago, Bankers Life and Casualty
Company focuses exclusively on the financial security needs of
seniors. The company offers a broad portfolio of health and life
insurance and retirement savings products designed especially for
seniors. These products are distributed through a national network
of professionally trained company agents. Visit us online at www.bankers.com.
