A career path for college graduates
June 6, 2017
Are you one of the 1.9 million college graduates in the Class of 2017?* If yes, we’d like to offer you our sincere congratulations! Your hard work, dedication and late-night cram sessions have paid off.
After you throw your college mortar board in the air it’s time to start searching for a career that’s right for you. The transition from campus to career can often feel like a scavenger hunt, especially when you’re not sure where or how to find what you’re looking for.
Here are some tips to get you started:
Make a list describing your ideal career. Ask yourself what you enjoy doing and what activities have helped with your success thus far.
Even after you graduate, your school’s career resources can be a great asset. Career counselors can help you plan your job search, create your resume and refine your online image.
Reach out to family, friends, neighbors and acquaintances for networking opportunities. Most people like to help job hopefuls.
Find a mentor who is more experienced than you. This can provide you a competitive advantage in your job search and help in your long-term career growth.
Make mistakes—and then learn from them. You’re going to make mistakes as you navigate this new chapter of your life. No matter how bad something feels at the moment, remember it will provide a powerful learning experience for you in the future.
